This rubric will be used to evaluate reading responses for a grade at the end of the term. The goal of the journals is for students to explore their thoughts, feelings, questions and impressions as they read your novels this year. They should think of the reading response as a place to “talk” about the books they are reading.
Level 1 (D Range)
In your response you:
– have written less than one post and commented on less than one post a week
– demonstrate that you have read little fiction and non-fiction materials
– do not reflect on the books you read
– do not relate to the books you read
– do not retell
– explain your interpretation of a written work but not clearly. You support it with very little evidence from the work or by providing few thoughts from your own knowledge and experiences.

Level 2 (C Range)
In your response you:
– have written less than one post and commented on less than three posts a week
– demonstrate that you have read fiction and non-fiction materials
– reflect on the books you read somewhat clearly
– relate to the books you read somewhat clearly
– retell somewhat clearly
– explain your interpretation of a written work but not clearly, supporting it with evidence from the work occasionally and from your own knowledge and experiences.

Level 3 (B Range)
In your response you:
– have written at least one post and commented on at least three posts each week
– demonstrate that you have read a variety of fiction and non-fiction materials
– reflect on the books you read effectively
– relate to the books you read
– retell only the most important information in your responses
– explain your interpretation of a written work clearly, supporting it with evidence from the work and from your own knowledge and experiences clearly.

Level 4 (A Range)
