The Face On The Milk Carton

5.) Write your predictions and about whether your predictions were right.

The first few predictions i made  were all about finding who her real parents were for example:  I predict she is going to meet her real parents and I predict her “parents” will be mean to her after they find out she knows that one or both of them are not her real parent(s). In chapter three Janie isn’t sure whether she is going to call the numbers on the side of the milk carton or not. I predicted she would call the numbers. I then predicted (when she was dialing the number) i predicted she would hang up before anyone answers. She doesn’t dial the number at first but then later on in the book she dials the number but hangs up before they can answer.  Janie also goes into her mothers room to find her birth certificate and i made a prediction saying she would find something related to her kidnapping but all she found was a locked drawer. The last thing i predicted was that she would find something related to her kidnapping in her attic, a room she is not allowed to go in. This prediction is yet to be confirmed.

7.) Tell about the connections you made while reading the book. Tell how it reminds you of yourself, of people you know, or of something  that happened in your life. It might remind you of other books, especially characters, the events, or the setting.

The first connection I have is a that my sister is 15. I made this connection because The main character in my book (Janie) is 15.  Another connection i wrote was a text to self again it was saying that i hate reading in front of people. I wrote this because Janie had to read  in front of her class and she didn’t want to. My first text to text related to a movie I watched where every week a kid went missing and would appear on a milk carton. The next connection i have is another text to text as well, It’s talking about how Reeve and Janie remind me of Gale and Katniss from the hunger games. I made a text to self connection about having really a lot of hair because Janie has tons of hair so i was relating to that.  When Janie was having one of her flash backs it reminded me of this book i read about this guy who lost his dad and has all these flash backs about him. I made anoth text to self about how i quit a lot of stuff just like Janie does. For example i quit base ball, Guitar and Gymnastics. The last connection i made was a text to self. It was about my sister being on the honours because Janie always goes to the honours breakfast. So as you can see this book is really easy for me to relate to and i think thats part of the reason why it’s such a good book.

8.) Write about the authors style and how it makes you feel.

Caroline B. Cooney’s style is really good in my opinion. The book i’m reading (The Face on The Milk Carton) is written from the main characters point of view. the way Caroline B. Cooney portrays how a person would act and think is really spot on, the way she explains how scarred and upset Janie was and how everyone reacts makes the novel seem like your actually in Janie’s head listening to her thoughts.  The book was written in a very fun way by this i mean it’s serious when it needs to be but the way Janie can be sarcastic and her thoughts are sometimes quite funny makes it really just fun to read. This novel makes me feel  different emotions. For example when she was confronting her parents i felt about nervous and on edge and when she was crying i felt really sad. The way she rights not only makes it seem realistic but it makes you feel what the character feels.

9.) Write about the language the author used and why you think the author wrote it this way.

The author (Caroline B. Cooney) uses a lot of adjectives (descriptive words) in the book. I think she writes this way so we can get a sense of realism in the novel and so we can perfectly picture the scene in our heads the way she wants us too. Caroline B. Cooney also makes charcters sound a Different way (as in they use different language) for example Sarah-Charlotte is all about romance and she uses a lot of romantic words in her vocabulary. Reeve (Janie’s friend) is always kind of down about not being as smart as his sibblings so he is always a bit sad but jokes a lot and Janie’s other friend Pete is always making fun of her and teasing her about her hair. Caroline B. Cooney is really good at picking out a different vocabulary for each character to potray them in a certain way and to give them their own persoanlity instead of them all acting the same and talking the same.
