The Face on The Milk Carton: Post 4

10: Write about the author’s craft-what was effective about the way the author wrote.

Caroline B. Cooney has a very unique style. Her writing can sometimes be very serious and other times very jokingly. With the way she writes you really get sense of the character’s emotion and are able to experience the same feelings. I personally think what makes her writing so effective is that it’s not completely serious so kids can read it and not get bored but it’s not all fun and laughs which makes it very good for adults to. Another thing about her writing that makes it effective is that she really understands people’s emotions and she displays that in her writing. For example when Janie was afraid and sad at the same time she demonstrated the emotion very well to the extent where you felt what she was feeling and when she found out her parents were really her grandparents you experienced the same relief as she did. I think that’s what makes her writing so effective and keeps you reading the book.

11:Write about anything else that you may think of that deals with the book.

When I was younger I read this news paper article about a little girl who got kidnapped at a very young age. Years later they found her, she was unharmed and very healthy. The man who had kidnapped her had been treating her very nicely basically like he was her daughter. This reminds me of the “The Face On The Milk Carton” because the little girl who got stolen basically had the same thing done to her as Janie did. They both got kidnapped, both tricked in to thinking the person was their parent and both treated very nicely. The little girl who is now very old said she thinks of the man who kidnapped her as her father even though she knows he’s not just like Janie still believes her parents are her parents even though she now knows they are her grandparents who kidnapped her. This to make makes the book sound more realistic and maybe its not just happened to Janie, Maybe this kind of stuff is common.

12: Do you relate to any of the characters in the book? Explain how and why.

All of the characters in this book have so many different personalities . The character that i can relate to them most is one of Janie’s best friends, Sarah- Charlotte. I can relate to Sarah-Charlotte because she’s always talking and loves to find out information about fellow classmates. I also relate to Sarah- Charlotte because she always feels she needs to know exactly whats happening in her friends life’s like for example if they’re sad she wants to know exactly what is making them upset and find out what she can do to fix it. Sarah- charlotte is also always happy and seems to look to the bright side which is sort of like me. Another character I can relate to is Janie because she’s really quirky and fun. Janie doesn’t really care that much of what people think and she will say anything.

14. Name 3 examples of signals that went off in your head while you were reading and explain them

This book is really surprising and it takes so many twists and turns but here are the top 3 signals that went off when i was reading this book. The whole time when I was reading this book i for sure knew she had obviously been kidnapped but i thought it was gonna be by a couple who couldn’t have kids or a mom who had run off with a boyfriend to find a better left. I was surprised to find that it was the grandparents (Sorry if you wanted to read the book). The second signal went in my head was when Janie went with Reeve to where her real parents lived and all of these kids were coming out of the school busses and she saw her brothers because i thought for sure she would ring the door bell and say something but she just drove away. The last signal that went off in my head was how she can drive on busy highways and roads even though she doesn’t have her drivers licence.
