3. Tell what you noticed about the characters, such as what made them act as they did or how they changed.
Ever since Peeta was taken by the Capitol, he has been acting weird and not remembering a lot of things about where he lived, Katniss, or his family and friends. Most of the time he still acts brain- washed, but I have noticed that he is recovering slowly. Like for example, Katniss and Peeta had a conversation that was almost the way it used to be, and Peeta started to remember some more things. Also, when Castor tells the war group that Pollux was an Avox, everyone is kind of silent and awkward until Peeta says to Pollux “Well you’ll be our most valuable asset.” Katniss thought that comment sounded like the caring Peeta she used to know. But still at times he acts confused and unnatural.
4. Write something in the book that surprised you or that you found interesting.
Recently in Mocking Jay, I learned that Castor, who is an acquaintance of Katniss, his brother Pollux is an Avox. An Avox is someone who has done something bad to the Capitol, and the Capitol punishes them by literally cutting off their tongue so they can not speak! Usually avoxes do servant work for the capitol or in this case, Pollux was trapped underground for about 5 years doing work, and he never saw the sun while he was down there. Katniss, Pollux, Castor and the rest of their group came upon the underground place where he worked and that’s how I found out he was an Avox, except it didn’t say how Pollux became one or what he did to deserve it.
5. Write your predictions and about whether your predictions were right.
Mitchell triggered a bomb, and ended up having his legs blown off and died because of his major blood loss. Before he died, Katniss was thinking about watching her mother help take care of injured people back in District 12, and remembered that a certain amount of blood loss will cause you to die. I made an inference that Mitchell’s blood loss was very high, and I figured he would not make it. My inference was correct because he ended up dying unfortunately.
11. Write about anything else that you may think of that deals with the book.
Peeta feels so useless and confused, that he just wants his team mates to kill him. Peeta thinks that when Mitchell died because of the bomb detonation, it was his fault but it really wasn’t. He thinks that they should just shoot him or give him a pill that ends his life before he kills someone else. And Peeta would definitely rather die instantly that be taken back to the Capitol and get tortured. Katniss keeps relating to a little song called “The Hanging Tree” which is a song her dad used to sing, she also repeated it, not knowing what the true meaning was when she was a child. When Katniss hears Peeta talking about killing himself, she thinks of the song in her head. One part of it goes like this:

Wear a necklace of rope, side by side with me.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree’
